Villa Santuario | Wellness Design

Location: Colombia (latitude 6.17°N)
Surface area: 450 m²
Programme: Single-family residence, 4 people
Status: Project completed January 2026.

This project was born from a fundamental question: can a space not only shelter, but actively restore its inhabitants?

Villa Santuario is the materialisation of that answer—a refuge designed to optimise rest, family connection, and deep wellbeing. The design integrates a complete system of ancestral spatial organisation: orientation of each function according to its nature, an unobstructed central nucleus, and a circulation flow that honours the timeless principles of Vastu Shastra.

Alignment with the rhythms of the cosmos and nature was the starting point. By understanding the energy flows of its inhabitants, the energy flows of the home were designed.

Wellness Design Strategy

Extreme Biophilia A vegetated central courtyard occupying 40% of the total surface area. From 80% of interior spaces, there is direct visual connection with nature.

Optimised Natural Lighting A lattice system that controls the entry of zenithal light. Orientations calibrated according to the specific solar path at equatorial latitude.

Natural Materiality 60% of surfaces in locally sourced, heat-treated tropical wood. Natural stone in wet areas. Textiles of natural fibres.

Conscious Geometry Proportions based on principles of spatial harmony and Vastu Shastra. Variable ceiling heights according to the function of each space.

Expected Outcomes
Perceived temperature: -2/3°C compared to traditional homes (cross-ventilation + vegetation)
Air quality: +35% above standard (strategic air-purifying plants)
Subjective wellbeing: to be measured post-occupancy using validated scales
