Villa Sacra
This project was born not from a commission, but from a fundamental question: Is it possible to design a home from the ground up that does not merely shelter, but actively heals and empowers its inhabitants? ‘The Villa-Sanctuary’ is my answer. It is an uncompromising exploration of how the principles of Vastu, neuroarchitecture, and biophilic design can be brought to life in a habitable space.
The process
Alignment with the principles of the cosmos and nature formed the foundation. By understanding the energy flows of its inhabitants, we can understand the energy flows of the home itself.
Every space has an energetic heart. Before tracing a single wall, our process begins by aligning the design with the Vastu Purusha Mandala, an ancient cosmological map that allows us to harmonise the structure with the flows of nature. This is not about rigid rules, but about infusing the plan with sacred intelligence from its very inception.
The selection of materials is the essence of the process, for it is through them that we create the skin and feel of the home.
Locally sourced woods treated for exteriors that foster connection with the earth.
Natural linens to encourage breathability; jute and rattan as natural elements that bring warmth.
Biophilic glass with a special coating that minimises heat transfer, helping to create comfortable, energy-efficient interior environments.
Lime-based paints on walls and ceilings that bring added warmth and a sense of refuge.
The distribution of materials throughout the space allows this dialogue between inhabitants and nature to continue. Creating a fluid communication in which one becomes the reflection of the other.
The relationship between interior and exterior is the representation of this continuous dialogue.
The heart of the home: the central courtyard. The sacred space where the union of nature and human is forged. A space that reminds us to look inward—not only after a hectic day, but throughout it. It is a space that, like the heart itself, transmits a constant pulse. Represented by a stone pyre where fire is kept burning as a symbol of perpetual renewal.
Generous spaces for relaxation where inhabitants can give free rein to their healthy habits and moments of contemplation. And the flows through which energy enters and leaves the home—in the same way we humans inhale and exhale.
The most private areas are spaces of refuge and intimacy, which is why they are enveloped in a second skin that flexes to the needs of their inhabitants
